The African Union Mission in South Sudan (AUMISS), IGAD, UNMISS, and RJMEC, collectively known as the Quartet, have expressed deep concern over the escalating political and security crisis in South Sudan.

In a joint statement, they urged national leaders to cease hostilities immediately and return to inclusive dialogue to revive the Revitalized Peace Agreement (R-ARCSS) implementation.

They condemned ongoing violence, including air and ground attacks, rising hate speech, and the targeting of humanitarian facilities. These developments, they warned, undermine trust in the peace process and threaten to reverse progress toward national stability.

The bodies also welcomed the recent joint AU-IGAD visit to South Sudan and urged greater collaboration with monitoring bodies such as CTSAMVM to investigate recent violence and hold perpetrators accountable. They emphasized that only a political solution, not a military one, can bring lasting peace.

Key recommendations included the release of the First Vice President and other detained SPLM/A-IO members, and the reactivation of inclusive institutions mandated under the peace agreement.

They reaffirmed their support for South Sudan’s peaceful transition and called for urgent action to ensure the country is prepared to hold free and fair elections at the end of the transitional period.
