During a heartfelt homily, His Lordship Matthew Remijio Adam Ngbitiku, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wau, paid tribute to the late Father Martin Isaac, honoring his enduring legacy of love, faith, and commitment to God’s mission.

The Bishop described Father Martin as a devoted servant of God, whose life was marked by unwavering dedication and a deep zeal for the salvation of souls. Despite his many challenges throughout his ministry, Father Martin remained steadfast, drawing strength from his faith and his profound love for humanity.

Bishop Remijio highlighted that the Thanksgiving Mass, celebrated in Father Martin’s memory, was a testament to his lifelong service to the people of Sudan, particularly the South Sudanese community.

“Father Martin served the Church for over 50 years,” the Bishop remarked. “He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that teaches us that serving God knows no boundaries.”

Reflecting on the hardships of religious service, Bishop Remijio noted, “Every calling comes with trials, but Father Martin faced them with trust, integrity, and a clear sense of purpose. His commitment at the altar remains an inspiration to us all.

In closing, the Bishop called upon the congregation to pray for the repose of Father Martin’s soul, asking Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and a place among the angels.

Born in Valladolid, southern Spain, in 1936 to Spanish parents, Father Martin began his journey to the priesthood in the Corella region in 1962. He earned his first degree in Moncada in 1964 and was ordained in Verona, Italy, in 1969.

His missionary work began that same year in Sudan, where he served until 1999. He was then transferred to South Sudan as Assistant Parish Priest of St. Daniel Comboni in Wau. From 2003 to 2015, he served as the long-standing parish priest, taking on numerous responsibilities and continuing his pastoral mission.
