Pastoral agents from the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba met yesterday to assess activities in the present situation of the Sudan and beyond independence.

The Archdiocese Secretary General Fr. Martin Ochaya Lino told Bakhita Radio that the meeting was intended to inform the Church personnel on the situation in the country and its effects on pastoral activities.

Fr. Francisco Pierli, a Comboni missionary theologian working at Tangaza College in Nairobi-Kenya, gave a lecture on the role of the Church in the current situation of South Sudan.

The cleric said the Church has a leading role to play through its religious and social duties.

Fr. Ochaya added that the meeting also discussed ways the Church could bring Christ to the people suffering from the war and promote reconciliation.

He said the Church had to collaborate with the government in the fields of education and health among other humanitarian assistance.

Fr. Ochaya concluded that the government alone would not arrest the post conflict situation in South Sudan.
