President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a historic political pact at State House in Nairobi, marking the beginning of a new era of collaboration between their respective political parties: Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The agreement, formally signed at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), paves the way for a partnership aimed at addressing some of the country’s most pressing issues.

In a powerful statement during the signing ceremony, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Raila Odinga, a long-time political leader, is accorded the respect he deserves both locally and internationally.

“It is important that everyone, whether peers, juniors, or seniors, recognizes Raila’s invaluable contributions across generations,” said Ruto.

He further emphasized that this partnership represents a collective effort to rise above political divides, with a shared vision for a prosperous Kenya. “We must rise above political differences and embrace a higher vision for the Kenya we all deserve.

Together, we commit to tackling critical issues such as the cost of living, youth unemployment, and gender inclusion,” Ruto added.

In response, Raila Odinga made it clear that the pact does not signal a merger between ODM and UDA. “The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) we have signed today is not a merger.

This is an agreement aimed at easing the political tensions in our country and fostering stability,” Odinga stated. He noted that he had consulted with ODM leadership and supporters before agreeing to the deal, ensuring that it was in the best interest of the party and the nation.

“We will continue using our respective parties to address the critical challenges facing Kenya,” he affirmed.

The signing also saw the presentation of the key terms of the agreement by the Secretary Generals of ODM and UDA, Edwin Sifuna and Hassan Omar, respectively.

Though not signaling a coalition, this political agreement is seen as a critical step toward healing political divisions and focusing on the nation’s long-term stability. Both parties have pledged to work together to deliver on the promises made to the Kenyan people.
