Juba’s Residence assures not to panic amid security deployment

Chuol Jany| South Sudan government Spokesperson and Minister of Information Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth addressed journalists regarding the security situation in Juba and the growing public concerns following the recent fighting in Nasir.

He responded to questions about why residents are living in fear and provided assurances on the government’s efforts to maintain stability in the capital. He says the security are deployed to increase confidence on people who wish to leave the city due to fear of their safety.

“The people of Juba all the time live in fear but why are people fearing how many time the people of Juba start running just because I see you running? These are people’s psychological problems and they are all the time of the run,” he said.

Hon. Makuei also confirmed the arrest of SPLM-IO officials in Juba including the Minister of Petroleum in what he described as a “They were arrested because they conflict with the law”

Makuei accused their peace partner SPLM IO of working alongside the White Army and claimed IO denied it. He said the government is committed to peace implementation and it will not take the country back to war.

He calls the SPLM IO to engage with White Amry to withdraw from the SSPDF barrack immediately to ensure peaceful implementation of the agreement
