A Lakes State youth association has called upon the Government to carry out uniform disarmament of armed civilians in all the ten states of South Sudan.
The youth aired their grievances to GOSS Minister of Youth Makuach Youk Teny last Saturday during his visit to the state to lay the foundation stone for a youth hostel and to discuss issues of insecurity with young people, Good News Radio reported.Lakes State Youth Association Chairman Manyiel Dut Kok told Minister Youk that the uneven disarmament process the country has rendered some youth vulnerable to attacks by the armed groups.
He appealed to the Government to involve civil society organizations and organized youth groups to work hand in hand in the disarmament process.
Minister Youk acknowledged that disarming an armed person was in itself tantamount to fighting.
He added that the government was not ready for forced disarmament and preferred a peaceful one that would involve dialogue.
The minister urged the youth to take up any kind of work at their disposal rather than waiting for the white colour jobs to curb the problem of youth unemployment in the country.
He said many foreigners especially from East Africa were doing manual jobs that the youths disregard.
Mr. Teny decried the opportunistic nature of youths who wish to become Ministers and Director Generals overnight.
He revealed that donors promised one billion US dollars to build sports stadiums in the ten states of South Sudan and Rumbek would get the first one.
