The South Sudan Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) has proudly presented a cheque of $300,000 USD to the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) to sponsor the South Sudan Premier League for the next three seasons.
This significant sponsorship marks the official launch of the South Sudan Premier League, which began earlier this year and aims to foster growth and development in the nation’s football scene.
During the ceremony, MTN Chief Executive Officer Ali Monzer emphasized that this sponsorship goes beyond just a financial commitment—it’s a celebration of South Sudan’s potential.
Monzer highlighted the transformative power of sports, which instills critical values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
These values are especially crucial for South Sudan’s youth, offering them a positive and productive path forward.
“We are celebrating talents, unity, and the boundless opportunity of this great nation, South Sudan. MTN believes in the transformative power of sport. It instills values like teamwork, discipline, and resilience, which are essential for the youth in South Sudan.”
Monzer also stressed that MTN’s involvement in South Sudan goes beyond making profits; it’s about contributing to the country’s social and economic development. The company believes in using sports to drive economic growth and empower the youth.
“We are not here just to make a profit. It’s about contributing to this great nation’s social and economic fabric. Sport drives economic development and empowers our youth.”
The President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), Augustino Maduot, also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of football in fostering peace, promoting the country’s name internationally, and uniting people. Maduot urged players and youth nationwide to continue their hard work, bringing pride to South Sudan and helping the nation progress.
“Yes, we are a young nation, but we are doing great things. The struggles we’ve faced have brought us here, and football is one of the ways we can show the world that we are united. Continue to work hard, and let’s take South Sudan to the next level.”
This sponsorship represents a historic moment for South Sudan football, with SSFA now organizing the premier league for the first time in history. Maduot expressed ambitions of including teams from other African countries in future seasons, signaling the potential for broader regional integration.
