The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Augustino Jadalla Wani, has called on citizens to remain vigilant regarding pressing challenges in the state, including land grabbing, insecurity caused by holdout groups, economic hardships, displacement, and issues related to cattle migration.
Speaking ahead of the Christmas celebrations, Governor Jadalla acknowledged the relative peace in the country as it recovers from years of conflict. However, he emphasized that Central Equatoria State continues to face significant challenges.
“Fellow Christians, although this year’s Christmas will be celebrated under relative peace as the country recovers from the effects of the conflict that lasted for several years.”
“Let us be mindful that Central Equatoria State still faces challenges, including but not limited to insecurity caused by holdout groups, land disputes, communal violence, economic hardships, displacement, and cattle-related challenges.”
Governor Jadalla stressed that overcoming these issues requires unity and collective action. He encouraged the people of Central Equatoria to work together with goodwill and determination to address the challenges.
“As Christians, we are determined to solve these problems as a state, but it requires our unity, goodwill, and practical efforts to overcome the challenges.”
The governor expressed hope for the resumption of the Tumaini peace initiative between the Government of South Sudan and holdout groups, aiming to achieve lasting peace in the country.
He also assured citizens of their safety during the festive season, noting that security organs have implemented measures to protect lives and property.
Governor Jadalla further urged the public to remain cautious about the cholera outbreak affecting the country. He appealed to citizens to adhere to health guidelines issued by the National Ministry of Health, including, washing hands with soap and clean water.
“Let this Christmas be a season of peace, reflection, and renewed determination to improve the things we have not done well,” Governor Jadalla said, expressing hope for a better year ahead.
As Central Equatoria prepares to celebrate Christmas, the governor’s message underscores the need for unity, vigilance, and collective action in addressing the state’s challenges.
