Hundreds of Eastern Equatoria state residents turned up yesterday at Freedom Square in Torit to commemorate the belated World Environment Day.
The World Environment day is marked every year on June 5.Deputy governor Nartisio Manir Loluke said God has blessed the sate with natural resources that needed preservation through planting more trees.
Wildlife Conservation and Tourism Minister Echom George Ekeno told the gathering that human life depended on the trees because they keep the environment clean and regulating the atmosphere.
He added that trees play major role in a fight against climate change.
Mr. Ekeno said the state Environment ministry and Wildlife Conservation will support the on going cleaning activities.
He added that cleaning campaign will continue for another week and will be under the State Taskforce.
