The government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, led by Governor Sarah Cler Rial, has dismantled three illegal checkpoints in Jur River County and Wau Municipality.
This operation took place on November 6, 2024, following a surprise supervisory visit by the State Security Committee along the Wau-Rumbek road.

According to a statement from the Governor’s official page, the committee’s visit aimed to assess the security situation and ensure compliance with state regulations.
Governor Rial noted, “During our visit and meetings, we successfully removed three illegal checkpoints located in Kuajieno and Kubri Ngab of Jur River County, as well as in the Eastern Bank area of Wau Municipality.”
The removal of these checkpoints is part of a broader initiative to eliminate unauthorized roadblocks that have been a source of frustration for travelers and a hindrance to trade.
Governor Rial emphasized the importance of adhering to the Presidential Order aimed at regulating checkpoints throughout the state.
“We have sent clear directives to remove all illegal checkpoints,” she stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
The State Security Committee plans to conduct similar inspections along all major roads within Western Bahr el Ghazal State and those connecting to neighboring states. This proactive approach is expected to enhance safety for citizens and facilitate smoother transportation across the region.
