Torit, South Sudan – The Mayor of Torit, Mustafa Albino Zachariah, has announced the suspension of road construction in the town as they await a World Bank-contracted company to take over the project.

The upcoming project will cover 40 kilometers of roads within Torit, including key routes to public and private institutions.

“Currently, we’ve done some preparatory work, like clearing drainage systems, but we are holding off major work until the World Bank contractor takes over,” Mustafa said in a phone interview with Radio Emmanuel.

The construction will include roads leading to the market, highways, and a proposed airstrip in Opulari.

In related news, as the region prepares for the Marathon Olympic on October 26, 2024, the mayor indicated that a road from the airport would be prioritized for renovation to facilitate the event.

Mustafa assured citizens that the government is working tirelessly to improve infrastructure and deliver essential services.
