An economist and lecturer at the University of Bahr el Ghazal, Awet Dominic Batista, has called on both the government and citizens of South Sudan to adopt creative and innovative approaches to address the ongoing economic crisis. Speaking on the Saut Al Sabah radio program, Batista highlighted that South Sudan’s economy is heavily reliant on oil, which accounts for nearly 90% of the national budget. He noted that the fluctuating oil prices are severely impacting the country’s financial stability.
Batista advised both the government and the public to be proactive in finding solutions to the economic challenges. He emphasized the need for vigilance and creative thinking to overcome the crisis.
He suggested that diversifying the economy by investing in other sectors, beyond oil, would greatly improve South Sudan’s economic prospects.
