Veronica Lucy Gordon, an esteemed journalist and rights activist from South Sudan, has been selected as one of Africa’s 100 Most Influential Women by the 2024 African Women Awards. The awards, which celebrate the achievements of women across the continent, will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on November 26, 2024.
Veronica, a member of the Executive Board of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) and a representative of the Association for Media Women in South Sudan (AMWISS), has made significant contributions to media in South Sudan. In a male-dominated industry, she has been a strong advocate for amplifying women’s voices and supporting female journalists.
Her journalism career began in 1983, when she was a columnist for the Nile Mirror newspaper, advocating for girls’ education. In 2014, she became the first female executive board member of AMDISS.
