Tonj South County authorities have reported that one SSPDF soldier was killed, and another injured over the weekend during clashes following an alleged cattle raid.

The raid was reportedly carried out by youths from Malual-Muok Payam against the Thony community of Manyangok Payam, both located within Tonj South County.

The county’s executive director stated that after receiving news of the raid, security forces were deployed to recover the stolen cattle.

However, during the operation, the armed youths opened fire, killing one soldier and wounding another.

The executive director explained that the youths attacked the soldiers after rumors spread that their chiefs would be held accountable by the government if the stolen cattle were not returned.

He emphasized that the government and local chiefs are actively working to recover the cattle and ensure that those responsible for the soldier’s death are brought to justice.

The executive director also urged the youth to respect the police and government, highlighting that the government’s primary goal is to ensure the safety of civilians and their property. He condemned the killing of government forces, noting that this was not the first time soldiers had been targeted while trying to restore peace in the community.

He made these remarks during an interview with Don Bosco Radio from his office in Tonj South County.
