Eastern Equatoria State Governor, H.E. Louis Lobong Lojore, has called on the state’s legislators to foster a spirit of self-reliance and hard work among their constituents as a means to combat South Sudan’s ongoing socio-economic challenges.

On Monday, August 12, 2024, Governor Lobong officially reopened the Eastern Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly after an extended closure due to significant renovations.

In his address, Governor Lobong urged the legislators to be candid with their communities about the limited resources that have contributed to the nationwide economic crisis. He emphasized that these challenges could be mitigated through increased agricultural production, encouraging citizens to cultivate enough food for their own needs and to generate surplus for the market.

“I am aware that the entire country faces resource scarcity, and I believe you are too. It is vital that we communicate this truth to our citizens and encourage them to work diligently to overcome these economic difficulties by producing sufficient food for ourselves and surplus for the market,” Governor Lobong stated.

He also noted that state institutions, along with humanitarian partners, are intensifying efforts to address the socio-economic situation.

The Speaker of the Eastern Equatoria State Parliament, Rt. Hon. Charles Udwar, commended Governor Lobong for his steadfast commitment to the state’s development across various sectors, particularly his instrumental role in improving security.
