Unity State witnessed a momentous event as hundreds of faithful gathered in Bentiu town to celebrate the inauguration of the newly established Bentiu Diocese and the installation of its first bishop, His Lordship Bishop Christian Carlassare. The diocese was recently established by His Holiness Pope Francis, marking a significant milestone for the local Catholic community.

The ceremony drew prominent church leaders, including His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Martin Ameyu, Archbishop of Juba, along with other bishops, clergymen and women, national ministers, and members of the Unity State government. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion for the church and the community.

In his address, Bishop Carlassare highlighted the historic nature of the event, calling it a new beginning for reconciliation in the greater Unity region. “Unity State is blessed with a new diocese, a new bishop, a new governor, and a renewed sense of purpose among its people,” he declared. He urged the faithful to come together, united in Christ, to build the new diocese with one heart.
