The governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State Sarah Cleto Real is deeply concerned about the looming famine in the state. She says despite the peace and harmony gained, citizens suffer a lack of food and other basic needs.

Sarah explained that, this year the state has received a large number of refugees and returnees who have become part of the host community.

She encouraged everyone to focus on agriculture and simple trade to combat the famine challenge and ensure self-sufficiency.

Governor Sarah also mentions that the President of the Republic called on all people in South Sudan to engage in agriculture to contain the famine crisis facing the citizens, as this is the responsibility of all the southern people.

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) also called on the South Sudanese to prioritize agriculture to combat hunger in Western Bahr El Ghazal State.

Sam Mahmuri, the Head of UNMISS Field Office Wau, highlighted the challenges faced by humanitarian organizations in assisting the people of South Sudan.

He underscored the need for citizens to take charge of their needs through agriculture or businesses.

Sam commended the State Ministry of Agriculture for its diligent efforts in providing seeds to the communities in the State.
