The Catholic Archdiocese of Juba this morning started the pray program to celebrate the independence with a huge procession for peace and unity of South Sudan.

The four-hour march started in St. Joseph’s Church and concluded at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, in Kator, with stations at Juba Teaching Hospital, Juba Prison, the Cemetery and Konyo Konyo Market where prayers were said for special intensions, Bakhita Radio reported.

Assistant Bishop Santo Loku Pio of Juba said at the beginning that the procession with the Blessed Sacrament marked the first prayer for independence.

He explained that the prayer program invites God to participate in the liberation of the world from evil.

Bishop Loku said the prayer and action program was intended to call the presence of Jesus for a peaceful declaration of independence.

The prayer will continue for the next 40 days until July 5, but the program concludes on January 1, 2012.
