GoSS minister for Finance and Economic Planning has revealed that the government lost 6.2 billion Sudanese pounds to business people who were awarded grain contracts two years ago.
Minister David Deng Athorbei told members of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly that former minister for Finance, Kuol Athien, awarded the contracts outside the budget which led to a great loss of revenue.Mr. Deng clarified that the money is too much to be paid at once.
He added that if GoSS had to pay the total amount at once it would go bankrupt.
Mr. Deng appealed to the parliamentarians to include 50 million pounds in the 2010 budget to be used to cater for the grain contractors.
