The  Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) persuades parties to the peace agreement to expedite the deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF) the deployment is significant to providing credible security during the election period in December this year.

The chairperson of peace monitoring body said this on Tuesday 19th March during the 40th CTSAMVM Board Meeting in Juba.

Maj Gen Hailu Gonfa Eddosa said so far only about 6% of the planned 83,000-strong NUF has been deployed and if the elections are to go ahead as planned in December this year, urgent action is required as the period draws nearer with only about 9 months remaining to deploy sufficient numbers of NUF.

The peace monitor body expresses gratitude on knowing that members of the NUF from SPLMIO and SSOA are now receiving salaries.

“On a positive note, CTSAMVM has evidence that at least some of those members of the NUF from the SPLM/A-IO and SSOA who have been deployed are now receiving their salaries.” He added.

The Chairperson said Cantonment Site and Training Centre Commanders continue to report a lack of any information about what will happen next as there are no indications when phase 2 training and deployment might start.

He added that phase 1 graduates from NSS, Police, Civil Defense, Wildlife and Prison Service are yet to be formally deployed.

The CTSAMVM said, despite the continued logistical challenges resulting from the difficulties of accessing helicopter support, and the condition of some of their vehicles the CTSAMVM continues to actively fulfill its mandate with the operation staff at the Headquarters to overcome these challenges.
