Christians in North Sudan are expecting the support of their sisters and brothers in the South after independence.

Comboni Missionary Asfaha Yohannes Weldeghiorghis is the parish priest of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur.

He told SCR News during a visit to Juba that the Christians in the North are mostly Southerners and expect the support from the Churches in the South.

The Ethiopian missionary added that since the faithful from both countries are related they should remain united.

Fr. Asfaha said the Church in the North does not have the same rights of worship as Muslims and the situation may worsen after the independence of South Sudan.

Fr. Asfaha said he hopes the two Churches in North and South Sudan remain united after the independence for mutual support.
