UNICEF says at least 305 thousand children and 26 thousand mothers die every year in Sudan from preventable causes, still paying the price of war.

UNICEF Sudan representative Nils Kastberg told the attendance at a workshop that about 26 thousand mothers die in Sudan while giving birth while 305 thousand children die every year.

He added that if Southern Sudan was to be listed as independent country it would be among the worst in the world.

Mr. Kastberg said that huge numbers of children aged 12 to 25 are both out of school and out of work.

He added that these tragic figures are due to the high price of war.

Mr. Kastberg said UNICEF is committed to change the suffering of Sudan’s children.
