The International Labour Organization (ILO) said labour and employment right should be the basis for establishment of the world’s newest state to achieve a decent work agenda.

The statement came at a progressive workshop that brought together GoSS and states ministries of labour from all over South Sudan together with trade unionists and employers.

Luca Azzoni, Skills and Employability Specialist told SCR News that the workshop was part of ILO support for post referendum issues.

He said it was important to put a clear message that citizens’ rights concerning labour and employment must be put at the heart of government policies as South Sudan nears full independence on July 9.

Hellen Achiro Lotara, Director General at GoSS Labour Ministry, said it was important to know international standards and what is expected from the government in order to achieve a decent work agenda.

Ms. Achiro added it takes a political will to implement a decent work agenda policy.
