SOUTH SUDAN OPENS FIRST WOMEN’S VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

South Sudan opened its first vocational training centre for women yesterday in Yirol West County, Lakes State.

Aluakluak Women’s Vocational Training Institute was inaugurated yesterday with a grand ceremony attended by a host of government officials, Good News Radio reported.

GoSS Gender Minister Agnes Kwaje Lasuba, who represented the President of South Sudan at the opening ceremony, described the occasion as a milestone in the history of Sudan.

She said the Institute will empower women in various skills, including accounts, book keeping, information technology, tailoring, catering, carpentry and mechanics.

Ms. Kwaje added that the skills will be key sources of income to guarantee a better living to many families of South Sudan.

Ms. Kwaje announced that President Salva Kiir Mayardit donated a bus for the Institute.

She pledged 5,000.00 Sudanese Pounds for the kids who brace the sun and heat during the celebration as a reward for their patience.

Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay thanked the local community for giving the land free of charge to build the Institute.

He said the site of the new institute was previously a cattle camp, which is oftentimes is jealously guarded by the Dinka people.

The vocational training institute cost more than 25 million Sudanese pounds and the money came from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund and the Government of South Sudan.
