Don Bosco Secondary School in Tonj South County has started inter houses athletics competition to mark school annual sports event that includes different sports activities exercised by students amongst the organized competition groups school wide.
The races which covered 100 meters race for both boys and girls, 200 meters’ race both boys and girls, 400, and 800 meters consecutively
Talking to Don Bosco radio on Monday, the teacher in charge of sports Benson explained that, a part from athletics other games would follow as competition continues
Teacher Benson added that such sports remain helpful to students in nurturing their talents to become a source of income for them in future
Benson encouraged people to keep peace through sports and joins hands to support such events to see students excelling and going far in education in South Sudan not within the brinks of schools.
Martin Mathok chol who participated in two hundred meters’ race and won first position said that being a runner is something outstanding both physical fitness and fans realization
Martin hoped that athletics be conducted in schools to intrinsically motivate athletes to participate in sport, for internal reason particularly pure enjoyment and satisfaction and intrinsically motivated athletes typically concentrate on skills improvement and growth
The inter house athlete’s competition brought together girls and boys to race brilliantly to fulfill the statement of saint Don Bosco that the key instrument to change youth is through sports
The other supplementary sports activities played are the javelin, high jump and sack races making the day absolutely colourful at Don Bosco Secondary
The aims of these sports activities conducted in the school is used sports as gateway to encourage teamwork among students learning together leadership skills towards common goal of education
The other importance of sports activities, students highlighted was that who participate in sports become better communicators knowing indeed how to express themselves beyond what happens in classes gaining confidence in their abilities to tackle more difficult assignments
