A heavy storm injured two police officers and destroyed over 60 houses and other property in Kapoeta North County of Eastern Equatoria.
Humanitarian affairs and disaster management state minister Beneya Benjamin Kitara told Radio Emmanuel that the Wednesday’s storm of heavy rain and wind left a trail of destruction.He said a number of public buildings, including the primary and secondary schools and the police station, and some 60 houses were destroyed and two police officers sustained injuries.
Mr. Beneya added that the state government has already informed United Nations focal person to alert other humanitarian agencies operating in the area to assist the victims.
He said his ministry sent already a team to Kapoeta North to assess the magnitude of the emergency situation.
The catastrophe in Kapoeta North follows an earlier case that hit Kapoeta South County where property worth thousands of pound was destroyed and several people left homeless.
Mr. Beneya says UN and other humanitarian agencies responded swiftly with food and non-food items to rescue the victims.
He calls upon the agencies to maintain the speed of action to rescue the people of Kapoeta North County too.
