South Sudan opposition parties have identified seventeen areas of contention in the Transitional Constitution 2011 Draft.

The opposition leaders met yesterday at the UDF headquarters to discuss the transitional charter draft yesterday.

Today, Salva Kiir Mayardit chaired an inconclusive and very hot Political Leadership Forum in Juba.

South Sudan Democratic Forum leader Martin Elia Lomuro told journalists that the political parties have pointed out what they thought was not correct in the draft charter.

He added that Abyei should not be embedded in the Constitution as part of South Sudan before the residents exercise the right to their referendum.

Dr. Lomuro said the SPLM still insisted on the decentralized system of government which has been in effect for the last six years.

He added that this was the right time to implement a full federal system of governance in South Sudan.

Dr. Lomuro said although some criticized the length of Mr. Kiir’s mandate, there is no need to talk about the term of the president before identifying the functions and length of the government.

These statements were made after the reading of the South Sudan Transitional Constitution to the Political Parties Leadership Forum meeting.

The Forum will resume tomorrow.
