The Government of South Sudan has assured the public that it will remain focused on the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement despite recent violence in Sudan that shifted international attention.

Hon. Deng Dau, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was speaking during the briefing of the diplomatic community on the IGAD initiative to Sudan conflict.

He says South Sudan Government still keeps its focus on its own problem and is ready to continue implementing the peace agreement.

“While engaging in Sudan’s issue, South Sudan has not lost focus on its own problems. Notably the implementation of the R-ARCSS,” he stated.

Hon. Dau said despite the numerous challenges and their interventions in the Sudanese conflict, they are working hard to ensure parties meet the milestone of the Revitalized Agreement.

Minister highlighted that his government formed a joint task force that will focus on the Constitutional making process and the elections preparations.

He ensured the public that parties are determined to meet the deadline in order to complete the remaining provisions such as the reconstitution of political parties, reconstituting the Election Commission, and popularization of the Roadmap.

Minister Deng Dau believes all these processes will climax in the conduct of free, fair, and transparent elections by the end of the transitional period.

The minister also pointed out that there is a high influx of refugees and returnees from Sudan both South Sudanese and other nationals to the country.

Honorable Deng urged humanitarian organizations to prepare in order to rescue those who will be transported to the country.

According to Dau, there are approximately ten thousand people who have crossed into the country both South Sudanese and other nationals.

Minister Deng said, if the war in Sudan continues and the number of refugees continues to increase, it is going to be a great issue of concern since it will require huge humanitarian needs and supplies.
