The Catholic Bishop of Torit Diocese, Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi says priests are a source of joy and blessings to their communities.

Bishop highlighted that God sets priests apart to be a source of joy to his people by helping them to live a sacramental life through the anointment of Baptism.

He says priests contributed so much in a confirmation that brings joy to the life of Christians.

“We know the importance of the priesthood, today we are celebrating this day because we would like to appreciate our priests. God anointed them and anointing the oil we shall be a blessing, the oil of baptism, the oil of chrism, and the oil of confirmation.

The bishop added that believers have a commonality with baptism and priesthood.

“God chose amongst His people for others to be set apart to be that cause of joy to his people, to help them to live the sacramental lives through the oil that we shall be blessings and so as a priest, we are that instruments, to give to people of God the joy,” he narrated.

Bishop Bernardino Lowi says priests are anointed and consecrated to serve the people of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“We have heard that is only the holy spirit that turns things, these natural things that we have, the holy spirit turns it to be a grace for us, the holy spirit also turns water into a new life,”

” Jesus mentions in the gospel, he has sent me at least to liberate liberty to captives, to open those whose eyes are blind, to give the year of favor to the people, once we are consecrated, we are not idle.”

The Bishop mentions that God chose the priests to make difference in society thus calling for the faithful ones to believe and trust in God

Bishop Bernardino says God does not make mistakes in choosing his servants.

“God doesn’t make the mistake of choosing somebody, he chooses you, he knows you can make difference and he wants that those whom he chose should be people who trust in him,” he said.

The Bishop was preaching on Tuesday during the chrism mass at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Torit.
