Catholic congregation in Juba mourns the death of engineer Anthony Surur Sebit, an artist who designed the statue where Pope Francis presided over holy mass during the pilgrimage.
Late Anthony Shurur 61 years was shot dead by an unidentified assassin on Friday 31st April 2023 while doing his daily road work exercise for fitness in Juba. No culprit was arrested over his killing.
The decease was the engineer who helped the church constructions in Khartoum and South Sudan.
He was the designer of the sculptures used during the Pope’s visit to Juba and several others in St. Paul’s major seminaries.
Axillary Bishop Santo Pio Laku described the late Anthony as the “icon of peace” as the work to unite people in the church.
The prelate condemned the barbaric act of killing innocent civilians by unknown gunmen in the country.
Bishop called the security to track the undefined groups who take the life of the innocent soul. “If u want total peace work for justice, protect the lives of the civilian.” Bishop Santo added.
Family members describe the late Anthony as the family pillar who always commits to solving matters and uniting the people under one umbrella church.
Balanda community representative and a legislator in the National Assembly Hon. Paskal slammed the rampant killing of civilians by unknown gunmen.
He said such crimes shouldn’t be happening at a critical time of implementing the revitalized peace agreement.
He further said Pope’s visit and blessings may become meaningless if the south Sudanese does not desist from killing themselves. “For how long we shall continue killing ourselves, Hon. Paskal cried.
The body is expecting to be airlifted to his ancestral home in Wau Tuesday for burial “May His Soul Rest in Peace.”
