President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Ministry of Finance to release funds for development known as “Community Development Funds (CDF).”
The money is a financial obligation of the country it gives to lawmakers, and builds their constituencies.
The CDF was created through the Act of Parliament in 2007 to enable the MPs to directly fund projects identified by their constituencies and allow the lawmakers to remain in touch with citizens at the grassroots.
Kiir also approved the payment for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment respectively.
He says the money will help Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to pursue foreign policy goals, paying the rental fare, salary arrears, and subscriptions in the Diplomatic missions.
Kiir added that the policy goals include soliciting regional and international support for the successful implementation of the R-ARCSS, lifting sanctions and arms embargo, and border disputes.
President Kiir further directed the Ministry of Environment to conduct feasibility studies for environmental social impact assessment on the Naam River and build the resilience of flood-affected communities.
He acknowledged the negative impact of climate change due to the recent heat wave with temperatures of over 40 degrees in South Sudan.
Kiir encourages government sectors to incorporate the strategies and plans of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) developed by the Ministry of Environment.
He believes the switch adaptation of the measures could mitigate the impact of climate change.
President encouraged the plantation of trees, the generation of 3000MW of clean energy from renewable sources such as hydropower, Solar, wind, geothermal and natural gas must commence and the work of phasing out diesel generators must start immediately.
Kiir was speaking to the legislature on Monday during the inauguration of the first parliamentarians sitting in Juba.
