The government plans to spend almost 95 million Sudanese pounds with the independence feast in Juba and in the ten states across South Sudan.
GoSS Minister in Office of the President sent today to the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly for approval the Budget for the July 2011 Independence Celebrations totaling more than 94.7 million pounds.The budget was approved by the Council of Ministers and covers 14 different activities.
Security represents the most expensive item, costing 19.6 million pounds, representing 20 percent of the budget.
Health and sanitation rank second in the list of expenses. The 12.8 million pounds allotted will be used to clean Juba, improved dumping areas for garbage and buy modern cleaning equipments.
According to the budget, 11.4 million will be spent in transport, including the buying of bullet proof vehicles and executive mini-buses to carry guests.
Finally the ten states will get together 11 million pounds for their own celebrations.
The budget contemplates other expenses including contingency, ceremonies and parades, incentives, catering, accommodation and the rehabilitation of Juba Basketball Complex.
