EQUATORIA CALLS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF REPRESENTATIVE NATIONAL SECURITY

The participants in the Equatoria Conference 2011 wrote in the final resolutions that the government of South Sudan should establish national security agencies that reflect true regional representation.

Western Equatoria Governor Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro said there is a need for a national army made up with soldiers from every community that can look at threats at national level.

He added that the army should be independent with the rank and file ailing from all regions of the new country to protect the people.

The Conference urged the government of South Sudan to recruit and promote a national army and national security agencies based on the Constitution and representing the ethnic balance of the region.

The final communiqu√Ö¬Ω of the Conference added that the Equatoria authorities must be involved in security management of the borders.
