Eastern Equatoria authorities are repairing Torit streets but the residents misuse them as rubbish dump.

State roads Minister Peter Otim Karlo cautioned residents not to misuse development opportunities that were meant to benefit the whole town, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Mr. Otim emphasized that the role of the government is to provide services but the citizens should own the projects for their advantage by keeping the streets clean from garbage.

The minister called on Torit residents to stop throwing rubbish onto the streets.

Eastern Equatoria authorities contracted four roads construction companies to maintain the 35-kilometre long Torit streets network with the help of USAID.

The minister announced that the construction of the Narus-Ethiopia highway has kicked off while the Torit-Nisitu road project continues.

Other road projects in the pipeline include the 144-kilometer Torit-Kapoeta road, and the Lomingi Junction-Emehejek and Magwi-Amee Junction.
