Bishop Emmanuel takes charge of Torit Catholic Diocese

Bishop Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi has taken charge of the Catholic Diocese of Torit following his ordination and consecration on Sunday.

Thousands of Christians, local residence and government officials witnessed the historic event.

Cardinal Gabriel Zuber Wako of the archdiocese of Khartoum has ordained Bishop Emmanuel at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Torit.

Bishop Emmanuel was appointed on the 8th of November by Pope Francis succeeding Archbishop Stephen Ameyu Mulla who served the Catholic Diocese of Torit as a bishop for approximately one year.

The Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Juba Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla has called on priests in the Catholic Diocese of Torit to support the newly ordained Bishop Emmanuel Bernandino Lowi Napeta.

Archbishop Ameyu prays for the open heart of the clergy and Christians to work towards the development of the church.

“Our dear bishop please you are welcome to the diocese, I have nothing to say may be to say to our dear priest from the diocese of Torit, here is your Bishop and I would like you to respect him as you respected me and my God open your hearts as I always pray that we need a convention, convention so that our diocese become a very strong diocese,” Ameyu said.

Cardinal Gabriel Zuber Wako equally calls for support to the new bishop Emmanuel Bernardino adding that leaders are chosen by God.

The Cardinal prays for God’s guidance and protection to Bishop Emmanuel to be able to accomplish the mission of God.

“There will be much opposition to what you are doing, there are people among your priest who will think they are better prepared than and they don’t understand why this man was taken to be a Bishop, and if you go through the whole scripture, you see the kind of people Lord chose to do his work you wonder could God not find better people?

“The Christian who will succeed and that is the power of the Bishop, the Bishop who will succeed, may God help you in this new mission and ask the priest of the diocese here to help you to go on in this mission.”

The 50 years old newly ordained Bishop, Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi was been a priest since 2004 in Khartoum, Sudan. He is the 4th Bishop to take charge of Torit Diocese in Eastern Equatoria.
