Delegates from Greater Equatoria are meeting in a three-day conference under the theme Justice, Unity and Prosperity ahead of the independence due on July 9.

Addressing hundreds of participants from Eastern, Western and Central Equatoria, governor Clement Wani Konga said the 2011 Equatoira Conference will discuss issues of governance, security and development.

He added that the participants will express the challenges facing the people of Equatoria.

Telar Deng Ding, legal affairs presidential advisor and Salva Kiir’s representative, told the gathering that the Equatoria Conference has a chance to make a difference in the lives of the people of south Sudan.

He called upon the participants to work together to ensure that their resolutions are achieved.

People from Equatoria have often complained of receiving little attention from the dominant tribes in the Government of South Sudan.

Equatorians, like other tribes in the south, played an instrumental role in the struggle for the autonomy of South Sudan. Many have hopes that the 2011 Equatoria Conference will tackle most of the bottlenecks affecting their communities.
