The Catholic Church in South Sudan is actively preparing its programme to welcome the birth of the new nation after the bishops appointed an Independence Taskforce last week.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe, who heads the taskforce, met today with a number of Church personnel to share ideas for the Church to celebrate the independence of South Sudan.Last week, representatives from all dioceses met in Juba in a two-day workshop to propose concrete events towards the independence programme.
The bishops of South Sudan will approve the final programme when they meet in May.
The programme is likely to run from the end of May until December 31 with the aim of strengthening unity and reconciliation in the new country with a special prayer nad some concrete actions.
