The United Democratic Front suggested that the faces of some South Sudan heroes should be selected for the new South Sudan Pound to be launched after the independence.
UDF secretary-general David William Tut said he heard that Dr. John Garang’s effigy will be printed in the new currency, Bakhita Radio reported.He added that his party has got no problem with the image of Dr. John but reminded that the struggle started in 1947 well before the SPLA.
Mr. William said heroes who took part in the struggle since the beginning need to be celebrated in the new currency.
The UDF secretary-general said foreign countries like the US not celebrate only one hero in their money.
Mr. William pointed out that some people will not feel comfortable to see only Late Dr. John’s figure in the currency because of his New Sudan vision.
The UDF secretary-general made these statements yesterday at the party headquarters in Juba.
