Eastern Equatoria health ministry is training over 30 disease surveillance officers in collaboration with World Health Organization in a bid to contain and control epidemics in the state.

State disease surveillance manager Dominic Franco Otilo told Emmanuel Radio that the training aimed at strengthening the surveillance capacity.

The officials will help to detect outbreaks of epidemic diseases such as cholera, meningitis and yellow fever that are common at border areas with Kenya and Uganda.

Mr. Otilo said the surveillance service was launched in the Sudan in 2007 to help monitor and limit outbreaks of the epidemics common in the country.

He denied any current outbreak of yellow fever in Eastern Equatoria.

Mr. Otilio was reacting to speculations about a fresh yellow fever outbreak in Eastern Equatoria state.
