The road that connects Yirol and Rumbek, in Lakes States, is undergoing very much needed major repair works since Tuesday.

Lakes State physical infrastructure minister Joseph Maker Dit told Good News Radio that the road needs to be ready before the heavy rains start.

He said the issue of Barnam Bridge was a cause of concern for the authorities.

The structure collapsed late last year and if it is not repaired in time the road might not be passable at all during the rainy season.

Mr. Maker cited the importance of good road network saying it helps business growth, community integration, security monitoring and transportation of food into the towns.

He added that Lakes government wants to provide good roads in the State but it a collective responsibility of the community.

He urged the people of Lakes State to be patient as the construction of the road goes on.

Year after year the Rumbek-Yirol road becomes almost impassable during the rainy season causing slow movement of vehicles.
