The president of the republic vowed today that the NCP will be the first party to recognize an independent South Sudan if voters so choose during the 2011 referendum on self determination.

Omar Hassan al-Bashir made this statement while speaking during the belated celebrations of the Fifth Anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that took place today in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria.

GoSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit said in the same occasion that Northern and Southern Sudan have strong relations and they will not be affected by the referendum’s outcome.

Thousands of people filled Yambio stadium to take part in the CPA celebrations in what a participant told SCR News over the phone was a peaceful and colourful manifestation.
