The UN Special Representative in Sudan announced yesterday that he will be leaving the mission at the end of February.

Ashraf Jehangir Qazi leaves Sudan after more than two years of a challenging but fulfilling and productive assignment, UNMIS says in a statement.

The note added that Mr. Qazi, a Pakistani by birth, leaves the UNMIS at a time when the CPA implementation is firmly moving forward towards elections and the referendum.

Mr. Qazi was Pakistani Ambassador to the USA, High commissioner to India as well as Ambassador to China, the former Soviet Union, the German Democratic Republic and Syria.

He also served as UN Special representative for Iraq.
