HEALTH AUTHORIES CALL FOR RATIONAL USE OF ANTIBIOTICS

GoSS ministry of health together with World Health Organization (WHO) called for rational use of antibiotics as they celebrated World Health Day yesterday.

Undersecretary Olivia Lomoro explained the theme of this year’s celebrations which says “Combat Drug Resistance”.

Dr. Lomoro urged patients to go to health centers for diagnosis before buying any antibiotic.

She said each antibiotic is used for a particular disease caused by a particular micro-organism, and advised patients to consult medical personnel for better drug prescriptions.

In a related development Dr. Lul Rie,k GoSS director general for community and public health, stated that the directorate of pharmaceutical is working to have quality assurance for drugs coming to South Sudan.

The health authorities made these statements yesterday evening in a conference to celebrate the Health Day and the birthday of the WHO which is now 63 years old.
