LOW SALARIES INCREASE JUBA INSECURITY, SAYS NGO

A local NGO revealed that the low salary structure for law enforcing agents is one of the causes of insecurity in Juba.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) made the statement after it carried out an insecurity assessment in Juba, Munuki and Kator Payams.

Addressing the press yesterday in Juba, CEPO’s program coordinator Edmund Yakani said his organization noted low salaries structure to some of government officials particularly law enforcing agents that accelerated insecurity in the area.

He explained that Juba’s high standard of living iencouraged young men to practice looting.

Mr. Yakani pointed out that there is need to improved the interaction between citizens and law enforcement agents in order to encourage cordial relationship among them.

He revealed that his organization would carry out the assessment in other capitals of state in South Sudan to help citizens understand some causes of insecurity.

Mr. Yakani reiterated that CEPO will conduct community security dialogue that will help the NGO to find more on insecurity issues across the region.

He called on the Southern Sudanese to joint hands in order to eradicate insecurity issues in the region.
