The celebration of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement is a milestone and the region has to remain united during the critical last months of the interim period, a political leader said today.

SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector, Anne Itto, told journalists today in Juba that the CPA represents a proud moment for the marginalized people of the Sudan because it put an end to 21 years of oppression, death and displacement.

Dr. Itto said the CPA consecrated the sharing of power and wealth, active participation in politics, respect for the diversity and the right to self-determination.

She added that the SPLM will mobilize the country to remain united during the critical last months of the interim period.

Dr. Itto underlined some CPA issues still waiting to be implemented due to lack of political will from the NCP like the demarcation of north-south border, transparency in oil revenue sharing, and replacement of laws against the CPA and the Interim Constitutions.

This year the official CPA celebrations will take place in Yambio, Western Equatoria, on January 19.
