Leaders of the business community say traders operating in the area are being taxed by both the state and the government of South Sudan which they say reduces their marginal profits and affects business.
The chairman Chamber of Commerce in Yei County, Wani Mike Enosa, urged GoSS to wave off double taxation and support traders operating in Yei.
He was addressing a meeting attended by local and foreign members of the business community at Kolondiro Lodge Tuesday.
The meeting was also attended by the Directors of State and County Revenue Authorities, Executive Director for Yei River County and the Payam Director.
Thomas Taban, Vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, argued that the removal of the double taxes would lead to growth of business in the area.
Mr. Thomas criticized the demolition of business premises without informing the Chamber of Commerce which he described as an act by to undermine the Chamber.
The Payam Director, Batali Santino Daniel, said ground rent was among the official taxes.
He denied existence of other unnecessary taxes imposed on businesses.
Mr. Batali explained that customs tax, immigration and vehicle clearance that are handled by the government of Southern Sudan are not re-imposed on traders.
