SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector, Anne Itto, told SCR News that so far nine people presented candidacies to the governorate of Central Equatoria, 11 of Lakes and 17 of Warrap state.
Dr. Itto explained that the SPLM state electoral colleges have to screen the candidacies and choose one MP and a reserve for each place.
Regarding governorship, the colleges are to send the top five names to the SPLM Political Bureau.
Dr. Itto added that it is the Political Bureau who nominates the party candidate and a reserve for governorship.
The state electoral colleges are made up of 25 members each, representing churches, traditional leaders, business community, women, youth and other SPLM strictures.
The electoral colleges have a list of seven criteria to screen each candidacy including SPLM membership, commitment to the party (payment of monthly fee, attendance of meetings and assignments), education, seniority and popularity.
The presentation of candidacies to run for a post in the SPLM ticket at the April elections ends tomorrow.
