Between 20 and 25 priests claiming over 10,000 followers in Uganda have broken ties with the Catholic Church and registered as the Catholic Apostolic National Church.
The group, which has dispensed with the discipline of clerical celibacy, has ties to the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church, started by the excommunicated Bishop Carlos Duarte Costa, Catholic Culture website reported.

Ugandan Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala denounced the leaders of the new schism as false prophets.

Cardinal Wamala added that the break-away priests come putting on sheep’s clothes, but inwardly they are wolves who want to snatch the good values in the Church.

Uganda counts 28.3 million Catholics, representing 44 percent of its population.
