Sudan People Liberation Movement has pushed till January 5 the deadline for party candidates to submit their application forms for a post in the upcoming April elections.
SPLM Eastern Equatoria Secretary General, Okanyi Felix, told Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview that December 31 was the original deadline set by the party for candidates to submit their application forms to express interest to contest for various seats in the general elections.

Mr. Okanyi added that the deadline did not favour the Legislators intending to contest for posts at national level as they were battling the contentious issues of the Security law and the referendum Bill in Khartoum.

He said the SPLM National Election Strategic Committee under the leadership of speaker James Wani Igga circulated a letter on Thursday to all party structures to effect the postponement.

Mr. Okanyi added that the results will be announced on January 10 after the candidates are scrutinized by the Electoral College.

The candidates will have time for appeals and objections before the lists are submitted to the SPLM Southern Sector for final assessment.

Mr. Okanyi explained that the party will not allow two members to contest for the same political position in the same electoral constituency.
