Eastern Equatoria officials have stepped up arrangements for the state to mark the fifth anniversary signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Torit on January 9, 2010.

A circular signed by the state general secretary, Cyprian Okuye Atar, dated December 29, calls for all political parties and government ministries to get ready for the occasion, Radio Emmanuel reported.

United Nations Agencies, religious institutions, traders, traditional and musical group in Torit are also invited to take part in the celebrations.

Mr. Atar says that similar celebrations will be held in all the counties of Eastern Equatoria State.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in Nairobi of January 9, 2005 between the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and the National Congress Party ended two decades of civil war that killed two million people and displaced another four million.

The official celebrations in Southern Sudan take place in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, on January 19, 2010, due to delays in finishing the infrastructure needed to host the event.
